Kristen and I have been working together producing multimedia stories about the people of Western NC for Carolina Public Press. The series is called We are WNC. The third installment was released on Father’s Day and was about my own dad — John Belleme. It was a profound experience for me to get to interview my Dad and ask questions I’d never asked, hear stories I’d never heard and talk about issues and struggles that he’s overcome that I didn’t fully understand. I’m so glad to have been raised in the household that I did. And I’m more proud of my dad now than ever after hearing all that he’s been through to try to be a better dad and husband and overcome a rough childhood and centuries of tradition.
