I never went to prom in high school, but I did go to a debutante ball. I presented my high school girlfriend, wearing a tux that her mom rented me. I couldn’t have felt more out of place. Fast forward about ten years later and I was assigned to shoot a big debutante ball at the Waldorf-Astoria. Girls from very “families of significance” were presented to the world. It was a fascinating scene and I felt much less out of place than before. Not because I have money but because I have a camera. My favorite part was probably the Texas Dip, a kind of curtsy the disproportionate number of Texas girls did.
