Gunpowder

The most enriching part of the Stages project was watching Cai Guo-Qiang work. He’s probably the most influential Chinese artist in contemporary art. I was blown away by his retrospective “I Want to Believe” at the Guggenheim in 2008. I had no idea that two years later I’d be photographing him making one of his gunpowder drawings.

Unstaged

For the last eight months I’ve been intermittently photographing the artists and events surrounding Stages, an art exhibition sponsored by Lance Armstrong’s cancer foundation Livestrong.
