la mama

I love my mom! And I love making prints. Nuff said.

Last month I helped build a strawbale toilet. Together with a crew of mostly 50-somethings, I learned how to rethread, cut, stack, slip and plaster bales. We built a solid little structure in three days. (Check out the CA Strawbuilding Association if you’re curious for more info.) Recently, I started using the darkroom again – it’s been over 5 years – and these photos are some of my first efforts since then.

Every month or so I travel to the Owens Valley, the same valley that’s robbed of its water by the City of Los Angeles, to work with local tribal members on a food sovereignty project. Here are a few snaps from the recent visit. Taken by me on my friend’s iphone… oh how I’ve regressed (credit goes to May N. on the 2nd to last one).
